Topic Trading Spaces!?!?!? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

By TheCity On 09/14/02

Who is this new designer on Trading Spaces!???!?!? This is a brand new episode so i'm sure he's new this season, and I hate him! He's all suit-and-tie, slicked back hair and cell phone! TRADING SPACES, HOW COULD YOU BETRAY ME LIKE THIS??

By Knittinator On 09/14/02

Well, he reminds me of a guy on Changing Rooms, the British version which is what Trading Spaces is derived from. So I cant hate them too much. Plus half the fun of TV shows are yellinf at the people you hate.

By ursonate On 09/15/02

Have you ever seen an interior designer?
Why would it be surprising to see one in a suit and tie? Try to get a client to fork over tens of thousands of dollars without one!
I found him to be kind of low rent hollywood in my opinion. But just wait, there's yet another new designer next week!

By TheCity On 09/15/02

I just meant he's a strong contrast to the other trading spaces designers. :) Next week's new designer looks pretty cool. Has anyone watched While You Were Out? also on TLC, pretty good show!

By Figwit On 09/15/02

You mean Edward? I didn't like him either, he wasn't as upbeat as the others...My favourite is Genevieve :D

By belden On 09/15/02

ugh, his (new guy's) room looked like bad 80's hotel. i think he just might be the male hildi. frank's massive pig had me giggling all night long, though. god bless him, that frank is such a kook!

By rubychew On 09/15/02

frank's pig made me sad, good for the fire I think, but I'd not keep it in my house. Frank is nice enough, but all his taste is in his mouth. The new guy seemed slimy at first, but I think he's basically ok...anything is better than hildi.

By Knittinator On 09/15/02

I like "Surprise by Design" (discovery channel maybe?) better than "While You Were Out". I think partially bc I want the guy on that show to be my friend! Also the doing it in one day thing is much more impressive.

I agree with liking frank personality wise. Id like to work with himon a room but I wouldnt want him working on mine! ALthough the people he did the room for on this weeks Trading Spaces loved it. He makes some people happy. To each his own I guess=)

By stella On 09/15/02

considering the new guy had to work with that wretched cheap-motel-green colored carpeting and shiny black furniture, i think he did an okay job. the room was bad, but it could have been worse. i think genevieve is sort of annoying, but she's okay. vern is the best, though... i think changing rooms is a better show anyways, and most of the other knock-offs (while you were out, etc.) are bad.

Edward was the sewing coordinator on the show for the past two years. I thought his art deco bedroom was asstastic. The fake malechite and crappy arm-wah gave me the shivers.

By ursonate On 09/16/02

You have to really spend $$ to do art deco properly. I've just never seen it done well on the cheap.

The Surprise By Design guy is Robert Verdi. He was the creative director of ABC Carpet. I don't know if he works there anymore. I can't imagine that he would have the time! He also does a lot of the fashion coverage on the Metro Channel (a ncy thing). He's a hoot!

Lauren, one of the designers on While You Were Out was recently featured on this series called To Live and Date in New York (later changed to Single in the City). I find her a little bizarre. I haven't really liked anything they've done on that show since the first episode, and even then I wasn't completely happy with it.

By overcoat On 09/16/02

The whole night I was calling him 'Doug's Dad' I'm like 'Hey Doug's dad, can Doug come out and play?'

Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought he resembled Doug (minus the whine)

By oldskoolgeek On 09/16/02

"Fast Eddie" used to be the behind-the-scenes 2nd carpenter. I'm not crazy over him as a designer, but glad that he got some screen time finally with all the uncredited work he did for the show.

I also like Surprise by Design much much better than While you were out. I wish SBD got the publicity WYWO did, since I think it's a better show.

By kprairiechick On 09/16/02

How many new designers do they have and more importantly, whom did they fire?!?!?! :) I saw the preview with the new African American design woman. Trading Spaces needs some new blood -enough with designers that think orange paint is what people want. :)

Well Laurie is probably on maternity leave. Haven't seen Hildy yet, but it's only been 2 weeks.

My place could use a little orange paint. Now that I think about it, how many times has orange paint been used? Orange hay?

By lottie On 09/16/02

hildi is scaling back the number of episodes she does as she's off in paree and frankly i find it sad that i seem to be the only hildi fan. sure i wouldn't want her pasting hay to my walls but damnit, at least the woman takes chances.

By starxduzt On 09/16/02

Has anyone else noticed that the host lady on 'While you were out' is the lady from that gum commercial where she's on the bus and it shows her being annoyed by a little kid/pen clicker and others?

By ursonate On 09/17/02

That's where I've seen her before!!! I like that commercial. I know her name from somewhere else that I haven't figured out yet.

By pixiechin On 09/16/02

Another Hilde fan here! I have a huge girly crush on her. I think the main part of it is that sexy voice. I could skip the hay on the walls room too though.

By violet On 09/16/02

what was with the slicked back mullet? it looked like a toupee.

the room indeed looked like a early 90's bad hotel, but that was what he was left with, really. i liked it ALOT that he lined and nicely hemmed the curtains and bedsheet... most of the desingers dont do that. the colour on the wall was nice, too.

By stella On 09/17/02

i just wanted to comment on "arm-wah"... i love it. it makes me so happy. thank you.

the slicked back mullet was indeed awful. it made him look like a sleazy pervert.

OOOO that new guy is SO creepy. Genevieve WILL take him out in a one-on-one battle. I can see it now! hahaha

I love the guy on Changing Rooms with the long hair. You know- the guy who always does the elaborate rooms with fluff.

While You Were OUt is good too. I love to see how horrified the husbands are when they return home to a camera crew and froufrou decor! -HA HA

I guess that's just the sadistic side of me;)

By stella On 09/17/02

Lawrence Llewelen. he's my hero. he does all of the best rooms on Changing Rooms, and some of the worst. he just rules. his new haircut is better, too... and i'm a big fan of the French Cuffs Undone look, which my straight non-interior decorator friend thought HE invented...

By madgeylou On 09/17/02

anyone ever notice how lawrence on changing rooms is always wearing jerry seinfeld's pirate shirt?

he's a good laugh though. changing rooms is usually more entertaining than trading spaces i think. it's good that it's only 1/2 hour, and the brits seem to be a little more honest with what they think about the designers' work.
