ok i am ready to progress beyond "the scarf" but all the knitting instructions i come across read like a nuclear engineers blueprint. i would like to now conquer the world of hats, beanies, caps...any glitterama advice for good simple books, websites for the challenged knitter?

thanks

As a new knitter knitting.about.com has been my greatest resource.

as well as using about.com, i also use "The Complete Idiots Guide to Knitting and Crocheting," >http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0028621239/qid=1032030705/sr=2-1/002-1023755-3483216?v=glance&s=books

I find it has very clear instructions, and a good progression of projects, including a hat.

Get yourself this book>http://catalog.craftsetc.com/viewProduct.cfm?item_id=371487
once you get past the stupid looking woman on the front cover, it's the BEST resouce for learning how to knit.

arghh!!! amazon is so evil, well i ordered the dummies book, but then i also got this book because i remember seeing something in bust awhile ago - "yarn girls guide to simple knits">http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0609608800/002-0172280-1604809
and then oooof course i had to get a little music, "the epoxies".....stop me before i spend again!!!

not to encourage additional spending, but i love elizabeth zimmerman books (knitting without tears has just been re-released, i think, and is wonderful!) a little chatty, but i like that.

Elizabeth Zimmerman's books are the best things since sliced bread for knitters. (would that be a mixed metaphor? whatever)

Her stuff will teach you how to do your own thing and not be beholden to patterns and whatnot. Seriously, best investment in books ever.
