Topic thinking about streaking. . . Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

. . . my hair purple that is. ;)
Right now it's mousy brown and below my shoulders. It's an idea I've been toying with for awhile and am actually receiving parental encouragement even before my cousin's wedding (well it's her favorite color too I guess).

Anyway, any thoughts on the subject of out-of-the-ordinary hair colors? Does it mean I'll have to coordinate my outfits to complement the streaks (as in no more orange)? I'm going back to college in a few weeks and will be looking for a job at a coffee shop or something. Do ya think this could alter my chances of employment?

And I have to give props to glitter for the inspiration to do something creative even if it is only hair color. :)

I like purple too, and what better place to put it than your hair? I had me some eggplant hair back in the day. And more recently I had some fire engine red hair. Both were quite fun. Very cool of your parents to encourage your creativity. My mom was like that too (dad just grinned and bore it).

You don't have to coordinate your wardrobe with your hair if you don't want to, but colors that complement the purple will look absolutely amazing. Everything will stand out.

I think that if you are looking for a job in a coffee shop or any other hipster-type place, the streaks will help you.

Happy coloring!

hee hee, i was thinking naked quad run or something. I had a pink streak on the bottom of my hair, so that you only saw it when i tossed my hair or it was in the front, it looked cool, but pink does not last more than a few days so you can change to your whim :)

oooh right, that was another question I had. How long would the color generally last? I talked to the hair stylist and she recommended pre-bleaching which I expected she would say, even though I'm nervous about bleaching, I'll take the chance. I've heard that the reds like pink often fade fast. My friend streaked the front strands of her super dark hair red and had to wrap them in tin foil every night or they would turn orange!

i used generic jolene bleach on my black hair
it took two applications to get it light enough so i could tell it was bleached
i was afraid to bleach it really white
but it would last about 3 or 4 washings, so by the end of the week it was pretty much gone, i used red alize passion from manic panic.
Hope that helps

assuming you're dyeing it yourself, leave the dye on the streaks (oh, and you'll definitely need to bleach, or it'll most likely turn out dark brown) for as long as possible - think 16 hours. special effects is by far the best brand of dye, followed by fudge and lariche, then punky colours, then manic panic, in my experience. blues seem to fade fastest, reds slowest, and most other colours in between, but purple will prbably go reddish rather than blueish as it fades.

i have deep, vibrant pink hair, and it's been six weeks since i last dyed it - apart from the roots (which i'm ignoring, as i like some roots - it looks like a wig otherwise - and don't really want to fry my hair), the only problem is a slight move from crimson to scarlet in some places. it's a mix of special effects and lariche (the latter is available locally, and i needed to slightly adjust the colour, so).

make sure that you're using pre-lightener and not blonde dye (it'll say it in the small-print). :D

oh, and http://www.koszkas.com/ do special effects, if you do want to use it and can't find it. no affiliation, just a happy customer.

xoxo
lisa, hoping that wasn't an overexplanation.

oh, jt, I'm so dumb. I was reading the posts above yours, and I KNEW this wasn't about nekkidness, but then I read yours as:

"I had a pink streak on MY BOTTOM..."!!!

hee hee.

ahem. right. carry on, everyone.

ooh fun! I worked at Enron (super duper corporate) with fuscia streaks in my hair and no one cared, so I don't think working at a hip coffee shop will be a prob. Definitely bleach the hair out if you want to actually notice the streaks and also the color will last a bit longer. In college, I was queen of hair dye and my favorite was Punky Color. That crap will NOT get out of your hair. I once had blue (manic panic)hair with purple streaks (punky color), and I tried bleaching it out to do the next color, and the purple turned this horrid turqoise and would not go away even with subsequent bleachings. So maybe you want to use Manic Panic now that I think about it.

I thought it was going to be about running around nude too.
I've streaked my hair purple before and got a lot of compliments from it, so definitely go for it. I used Manic Panic, which has great colors but fades pretty quickly (like after a week). I've heard Fudge is good too but also doesn't last long.

orange dosent go with purple?

SINCE WHEN?

streak your hair, girl.

i may do the underside streak thing. but i work in a hospital, so i think it may be frowned upon. im no Dr Pam.

just one tip, which if you don't wear makeup you can ignore: in college, i had fire engine red hair. (ok, some idiot people thought it was watermelon pink, but it was scarlet, people! scarlet!)

anyways, i have really really pale skin, and if i didn't put on mascara and lipstick (darker lipstick, too, like a berry or a bronze) i looked really ill. Since you aren't doing your whole head, i don't know if it would be the same for you...but it gives you a great excuse to get more makeup!

Thanks everyone, I like hearing all your colorful stories ;). And Frankie V, I was thinking about going to get some makeup, maybe like a glittery purple eyeshadow.

vampy, lol, I told you the thread wasn't about nekkidness! but since I'm getting the streaks today at 1, I could surrender the topic over to such things, hehe.

now, when he streaked, was this at something school-related? (like soccer practice?) he didn't seem to have a problem with exposing himself. I on the other hand would require more than a dollar... Oh I forgot about that "clothing optional" beach in san diego. Since everyone was baring it (mostly older portly men though), I was almost game for it. But I guess that's not exactly streaking in the running-around, shaking-your-booty, almost-get-arrested sense of the word.

Alright, enough babbling, carry on!

I had my hair purple one time....It looked great...I always had people complimenting me on it...I also had it bright ronald mcdonald red...I'm thinking of dying it all pink...A piece of advice...NEVER EVER put hair dye on your hair when it's still really wet...I made the mistake of doing this one time when I was trying to dye it blue and lets just say my head looked like a army mans camo jacket...which was cool but I wanted it blue!...*wishes I still had the picture of that*

By newfoundgirly On 09/06/02

I did it! Well I didn't but my mum's hair stylist did. Anyway, I am so diggin' it! yay. There are three streaks on each side and now I feel addicted to hair coloring, uh-oh. Oh yeah, and they're permanent so it's good that I'm happy, hehe. I'm already starting to think about wider streaks or maybe pink next time....
