glitter,

i am getting my very own christmas tree this year, and am considering various ideas for the top. when i was younger, we always had an angel at the top of the tree. i found this crochet angel pattern that i kind of like. it could be cool, with funky thread, some facial qualities, and some poems typed out on strips of paper and attached to her wings like banners.

what are other ideas for treetoppers. i'm open. i'd do a star, angel, anything. inspire me!

I made the Eifal(sp?) Tower out of paper mache' and added white twinkle lights from underneath(light shows thru the 'architechture')It looks brilliant and twinkly and it's 'deifferent'.
Good luck!

i got a mini paper mache llama at Chevys last year(southwest food, for those not familiar...i'm not sure if it's a local chain or not) and put him on the top of my tree. i'll probably do the same thing this year, even though he's sitting on my desk right now and sort of made the transition from holiday decoration to misc. junk :)

our tree has an adorable abominable snowman (from the old rudolph movie with the island of misfit toys) on top and he's holding a silver star thing. very cute, although sort of hard to secure him to the top. :)

I have a big thing for Mexican folk art, so my tree topper is a lightweight, multicolored tin Moravian-like star. (Are Moravian stars just a Pennsylvania thing? if so I can explain further...)

I always thought it would be fun to make a tree topper out of Playmobile people... like a Playmobile girl with crocheted wings attached, or something. But then, I'm the gal who used Playmobile people as the wedding cake topper.

SF:You do wonderful things!So cute!
I used fisher price 'little people' for ornaments! And their tiny cars(mail trucks and tractors) too!
What is Moravian?
My husband is Mexican and never had christmas. He wants to make a papermache meriachie for the tree topper.

Thanks DeborahM!

A Moravian Star looks like this:

Where I grew up, people would hang white Moravian stars that lit up on their porches every Christmas. There was one little town where just about everyone had a Moravian Star... I used to love being there at Christmas time.

I really love your little people idea for ornaments!

oh my goodness, i love that moravian star! thanks for the link, i really, really love it! the stuff is pretty expensive, but it's something to think about.

Athos, I'm glad you liked the Moravian star! Believe it or not, I actually made one out of card stock in 10th grade geometry class... many years ago. It did take some time and patience, but I was happy with the outcome. I spray-painted mine black with red glitter. Oh yeah!

I'm pretty sure I don't have the instructions... but I'm sure there must be instuctions online somewhere, if you're interested. Either that or I could give my old geometry teacher a call...

some instructions for stars in case anyone's interested... >http://www.highhopes.com/3dstar.html>http://www.wshs.scs.k12.nc.us/math/edwards.htm

info on how to make a light up star: >http://hgtv.com/HGTV/project/0,1158,CRHO_project_20319,FF.html

i'm thinking of incorporating the light up part with the moravian star part.

Last year I put a sock monkey on top. I just sorta sat her up there with her arm around the top...

Tammy Faye Baker is my tree topper. A friend's dad got her for me when he was travelling somewhere. In her honor, I made shoe ornaments and put them all over my tree with the rest of my decorations.
