Topic shrunken sweater Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

So I had this really great, comfy, soft sweater and...sure the tag said handwash/air dry but I never did. Okay, so the first few times it was fine, it felted a bit and started to shed little lint balls but it still fit. Now, however I'd have to lose about 25lbs to wear the damn thing properly. I thought nylon blends didn't shrink! Okay it's 70% lambswool and 20% angora...

So what can I do with it? I was thinking of cutting it into long strips and making a scarf. Are just the sleeves enough? Should I line it? What do I do with the rest? And what about the lint!

If you make a scarf out of the arms, maybe the body would work for a throw pillow cover? (it would have to be a smallish pillow, but...) Cuddly for reading on the couch or whatnot.

its probably not wide enough, but you can turn a sweater into a miniskirt...

know anybody w/a baby? this is PERFECT for wool diaper covers! (sounds hot and icky, but it's the best for cloth diaper covers!) i'd take it off your hands in a heartbeat!

shrink it some more... wool felt is ace fun, you can make balls, mittens, hats, flowers, purses, anything where you don't want a hemmed edge - if you felt it enough you won't need to line it for a scarf - just sew the bits together.... i love felted wool - i bought a heap of second hand jumpers earlier this year just so i could shrink them up and play with them.

When my boyfriend shrunk my grey lambs-wool sweater I thought I would die (it was expensive) or just kill him. It was too tight to wear as was, so I cut it down the center and then sewed some bias tape down the new center, and then around the collor, cuffs and bottom. I now had a cute grey with pink trimmed cartigan, the problem was that I couldn't add buttons because now it was just big enough to fit. No room for button wholes, so after a night of thinking over various closures i settled on hook and eyes. Cute, different, kind of a pain to sew, but the also give you a little more room width wise. But if your sweater is really small I would have to go with a pillow (it would be super soft).
