I was looking in this huge JCPenny's catalog and found that you can order Girl Scouts uniforms, BUT only if you actually have a troop number. I was totally looking forward to getting a belt purse and some cute green socks. And in a recent issue of CosmoGirl!, Kelly Osbourne is wearing this rad Boy Scouts jacket with a few beads and patches -- Where is my best bet for getting my hands on these lovely goods (perhaps somewhere online)? All of the nearby thrift shops are less than great.

Ebay has some fun leftovers. That's really odd about Penney's demanding a troop number. A friend of mine walked into a boy scout store here in Chicago and bought items for a costume. Maybe this is something new....

Check your area for a girl Scout supply store. Look in the phone book. My daughter is a girl scout and they have a store where the troop and leaders can get their uniform and other stuff

check out thrift stores and good will

monstervintage.com....i was looking at this site...yesterday!look under cool stuff...and scroll down the left side. they have some pretty cool shirts there and a cute dress...its a bit pricey though for the dress.

Do they just ask for a troop number and assume you are part of the troop, or do they do some sort of verification process? My old Girl Scout troop number is 1464, and it still exists, so you might be able to use that. I second the thrift stores, though. They usually have a uniform section.

By sprung On 08/11/02

How nice of you to offer your old troop number. ;) I don't know what sort of verification they'd go through. What if I wanted my things shipped in California but was using a troop number originating in New York? I don't know. I think the green socks are so cute. I remember seeing American Eagle sell some fun Scout-esque patches...what sort of jacket would work well for sewing my own patches to?

By weezerite On 08/11/02

they ask for the troop number because they assume you are actually a girl/boy scout, and therefore you need a required part of your uniform: the troop number. just make one up, the scout police wont arrest you for making one up. i have a boy scout shirt i got at the resale shop, the one thats aimed at people who can only afford these clothes. so if the thift stores in your area arent upscale you shouldnt have a problem, most likely you would eventually come upon one, it just takes some patient thrifting. i was also a brownie girl scout so ive taken the patches off my old sash and put them on other clothes.

Also if you check the huge JC Pennys stores they often have the boy/girl scout uniforms in the regular clothes section.

Back in my girl scouting days, I got my uniform and stuff at a camping store. If you have a really big one in your area, you might try that.
I wish I could find my old sash to pull some of the patches off. My friend has a moving-up type patch, a pair of wings, sewn onto her bag. It's so cute, and I'd like to steal that idea.

By Meegie On 08/11/02

You can get Girl Scout uniforms in Wal-Mart. I can't find Boy Scout uniforms anywhere though. I want one of those. I think I might just steal one off of one of my friends. He still is a Boy Scout right now (I'm still a Girl Scout). I want to take the little triangle badges off of my old Brownie sash and put them on my bag.

go ahead and order stuff from JCPenny. the only reason they ask for a number is because they send you free troop numbers if you order something that you need the number on, like the sash etc. they think of it as being nice for sending you the numbers.

i had my old junior scout sash and i ripped off all the badges to sew on other items. fun fun. now the nike sweatshirt from my exboyfriend is no longer a nike sweatshirt but a girlscout sweatshirt!

By whoislain On 08/15/02

oh man i would love to have some girl scout patches...anyone know where i can get some??

By weezerite On 08/16/02

i dont know where to get the patches, our troop leader always gave them to us when we finished the 'try-it'. im guessing jc penney might sell them, but i dont know. you could also check thrift shops, you can always buy some accomplished scouts uniform and rip the patches off.

By amphoteric On 08/17/02

there are lots on ebay (i hadn't seen girl scout ones ever before - they're so sweet!), and they're pretty inexpensive. as a former girl guide, i feel kind of icky about the idea of buying badges, but then, i wouldn't say no if someone offered me their old sash to use for crafty projects, so, um, nevermind. :D

i was only a member for two years, yet i have the maximum number (3) of craft badges, as well as single crafts like calligraphy and photography. they had to special-order the calligraphy one, because so few people bothered with it. :D

other than sewing them onto clothes or a bag, any ideas? i'm drawing a big crafty blank.

lisa, superglad the cookie thing doesn't happen here.

make up a troop number...

also, I know that either the Antique Boutique or Screaming Mimi's (in NYC) had a big rack of scout-stuff when I last went there...

By sprung On 08/21/02

I'm not *too* interested in buying patches. American Eagle sells patches that would be great. If I found a sash that already had patches on it then...even better. :)

I'm just really interested in those green scout socks!!

By Meegie On 08/19/02

Oooh. I think a troop leader has to buy badges.

edit: I forgot. I found a set of really cute Boy Scout shirt on ebay, they were perfect, but I forgot to bid.

By Bontemps On 08/21/02

Check out your goodwill. I bought a rockin' windbreaker from there with the best patches like "I love to be a Leader" :) & I sold it on ebay.

By kickarse On 08/21/02

Did you ladies go to http://shop.girlscouts.org/ ?

They're even having a sale right now!!

By kellychilton On 09/16/02

hi eveeryone
i was looking for some different patches than these, but found an awesome link and some of these look a lot like girl scout badges:
patchsales.com

(and what is thinking day?!?)

By boojigirl On 09/17/02

thinking day is the best! i grew up in a small town, so i'm not sure what it's like other places, but our thinking day was this:

all the troops in the area (tiera del oro, all the way, baby!) got together on thinking day in a giant place (auditorium, theatre, veteran's hall, etc.) and set up booths. each troop has taken on the identity of a country. the booths will serve traditional food, do traditional dances, crafts, sing songs, tell stories, etc. i "think" it was to honor all types of people and there local lore.

god, i LOVED being a girl scout! i will definitiely be a leader some day, and i will do the rad shit with the girls. some friends of mine cleaned their leader's house at girl scout meetings and never did anything fun. poor girls!
