I want to make a necklace but don't want to put a standard clasp on it to use as a closure. Does anybody know how to make some kind of closure that does not require clasps and jump rings?

I found this-->http://www.pcpolyzine.com/february2001/technique.html
--and I was wondering if anybody else had any other ideas. (It's under O-Rings.)

They make magnetic closures that are pretty cool, you can get them at Hobby Lobby. I didn't find them strong enough for bracelets though. Toggle clasps are popular, but can be difficult to clasp with one hand. You can make hook and eye style clasps out of wire (22 ga or larger), but I guess that sort of involves jump rings.

I have used button type closures- simular to the ones you mentioned- you can make a loop either out of beads or leather- and then use a button-
or I use silver buttons with a loop that has been soldered ion the bottom for the other end-

you could use the type of buttons found at the fabric store that have a loop on the back-

I made an awesome bracelet out of and Antique Cute Button and a bunch of beads.

I made a loop of 20 or so small beads (enough to go around the Button) Then i took the loop and added beads, to the length of my desire, the i added a crimp bead, slide on the button, pulled back through the crimp bead and pulled the wire through some more beads and cut the wires and crimped the crimp bead.

Well, thanks y'all, but those aren't still quite what I had in mind. And Jaime, I am glad you gave a suggestion, but I don't understand your picture (I'm one of those people who can't visualize things). Thank you just the same.

I looked some more and I found this page
>http://www.desiredcreations.com/Misc_PCgallery2.htm
(fifth row from the top)

and it's more like what I want (even if it IS almost exactly like the first link). I guess I should ask if somebody knows how to finish off a bracelet or necklace with just knots. Not just knotting the ends so that be beads don't fall off, but I had a bracelet once that was adjustable and it was just some kind of knot and beads to do it. I wish I could explain it better, but I would think that there is some technique with hemp jewelry that is similar. How do people finish off hemp bracelets and necklaces?

you can also use chinese macrame.
i use it quite alot, an it's pretty simple once you learn it once. =)
very cute looking too:>http://www.chineseknotting.org/button/#howto1

just make two button knots, but make sure to pull the loop into the button on the second one.
you'll end up with a loop, and a ball :)
