Topic How do I sew a dress out of a bedsheet? Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

Hello everyone,

I recently saw a fabulous dress made out of an old kid's bedsheet... nothing fancy, just a simple tank dress. But, alas, I am new to sewing and haven't the foggiest idea where to start! Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks for any advice you can provide!

I'm attempting to do the same thing with vintage sheets. The bedsheet is so thin though (as most are), how can I create a dress without my undies showing through?

Buy a simple pattern from a fabric store! I got the cutest pattern for a simple spagetti strapped dress for .99 cents at Joannes. Get a pattern labled as easy. As for the thin sheet problem, try lining it with plain cotton. Cut out the cotton as you would the regular dress pieces, and baste it to the wrong side of the fabric. Use it as one piece of fabric. I do this a lot when making pants and skirts from sheets :) They aren't too heavy but they keep them from being seethrough. Hope this helps!

I have made a dress outta a bed sheet. Except mine is white with little purple and green flowers....ah!

I just made it two layers to avoid the see-through factor and used a vintage shift-dress pattern. I added a little trim and viola!

1.99 for the sheet, .99 for the pattern. tres fantastique!
