I'm pregnant and have a ripping barely-can-swallow type of sore throat, please help!

Spoon of honey, big slice of lemon (squeeze then drop in) and slice of ginger, plus hot water, equals delicious yummy tea. That deals with an ordinary sore throat... hope you get better.

get some spicy ginger ale (i stand by vernors but i know others like blenheim's) and nuke it in a coffee mug for a min and a half. drink; try not to let bubbles go up your nose! ;p

also, any celestial seasonings zinger tea with honey & lemon added. (p-girl's idea sounds good too...i'll have to try it)

i also take zinc lozenges (i'm sucking one right now; the ginger ale was my b'fast btw so i feel your pain), though you might wanna check with your doc to see that it's okay for the wee one. :)

feel better!

peppermint candies help ease the pain. grandma remedy as well as all the other mentioned things. :)

Equal parts honey and lemon juice, diluted in water to taste and heated in the microwave. This is an amazingly effective remedy (and tastes yummy, too).

honey, gobs and gobs of honey. Really, it's antiseptic and moisturizing.

if you make it to the store look for traditional medicinal's brand herb teas - they had it in my regular grocery store with the other herb teas. they make something called 'throat coat' which has slippery elm in it, and which is absolute tops for sore throat relief.

and I seem to recall my dad telling me to gargle with warm, salty water. yuck. I never wanted to, but I imagine it would work...

This isn't traditional- but sometimes I feel that a slush helps my sore throat.

I second that, kari-star...Throat Coat tea is great, and tastes pretty good too (in my humble opinion.) I keep it at home and at work.

Thanks for all the great replies/ideas! Since honey seems to be the common denominator, I am going to try that with an organic rooibos tea and some soy milk (haven't had the best nutrition today, everything either hurts or is too phlegm-y). Tomorrow I'll be off to get ThroatCoat!
Also, since this will no doubt turn into a cold, any remedies for that would be appreciated as well. My old stand-by was echinacea & goldenseal, but I'm reluctant to take herbs now.
