Sorry for starting another thread, but I just couldn't figure out where to post.

Banana Yoshimoto has a new book coming out August 5th called Goodbye Tsugumi.

Quentin Tarantino sold his first novel, Kill Bill and is already working on the movie.

Judy Blume is releasing Double Fudge.

Possession (the movie) starring Gwyneth Paltrow will be released in August. Based on the book by A.S. Byatt which I don't think I will ever finish.

Has anyone read Ethan Hawke's book? He will have a new one out soon and it sounds kind of interesting.

www.the-phone-book.com has downloads of stories meant to be read in a glance on the screen of a web-enabled cell phone.

Scott Rudin (who produced Wonder Boys, Angela's Ashes, and The Hours) is working on adapting Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections, Dave Eggers' A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius and 2 more of Michael Chabon's books to the screen. He also will be working on the entire Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events

most of the above information came from Book magazine.

I didn't finish Posession either. Even though I was kind of enjoying it.

They are making a movie out of Cold Mountain, too. Staring Nicole Kidman as Ada, Jude Law as Inman & kind of weirdly, I think, Renee Zwellinger as Ruby. Giovanni Ribisi (sp?) is in it too, but I am not sure who he will play. He is gonna be so good in it. I am excited. I liked that book a lot.

I'm currently re-reading Possession. I loved it when I first read it a few years ago, and I wanted to re-read it before the movie is released.

Of course my "reading" is more like read a while, skim a section, read a while, skim a section...

I've read Double Fudge--it's hilarious, and it's truly asounding how Judy Blume can pick up right where she left off in the 80s.

I'm torn between wanting to read Kill Bill (it's a Talk Miramax book right? All that "synergy" it has to be), and not.

I read Ethan Hawke's first book, which was a decent effort, but never transcended that first novel "I'm an author now!" almost pretentious voice. He's not a bad writer, and I think he has the ability to be a good writer, so I'm interested in looking at his second one. But I'll take it out of the library rather than buy it outright.

Am I the only one who thinks that Dave Eggers is overdone and overexposed? Though I can't wait to see Scott Rudin's production of the Hours!

I rather liked Ethan Hawke's book. It was suprisingly creepy. it's been a rather long gap between first and second books so how that has beared on his writing will be interesting to see.

jen, you are not alone in your assessment of david eggars. i was less than impressed with the staggering genius as well (although i sort of liked his recent short story in the new yorker).

i actually think he sometimes has pretty interesting ideas, but he doesn't really take them to any ultimately interesting places, or even just as far as they might go (the new yorker story being a case in point).

belden, who hearts david foster wallace most of all
