now as far as I know they stopped making these babies. And I LOVED them. I tried making my own by freezing jello pudding but it just got all icey and not creamy. Anyone done this succesfully?

A while back, my friends and I were talking about how we missed pudding pops and we also tried to make our own. It didn't really turn out too well either. I'm hoping someone else here had better luck than we did.

Also, one of my friends (who's hilarous) sent a letter to Kraft (who made the PPs), the final line being "I will keep up the fight and I won't stop
until there's a pudding pop in the hand of every kid (old or young) who
wants one. " He got some canned response about how it's never an easy decision to discontinue a product or something. It was pretty funny though...

By jtsang On 06/17/02

ha ha, he should start a petition. I'd sign it a couple of hundred times ;)

By violet On 06/17/02

man, why'd you have to mention them... now i want one! :D
>http://www.gurlpages.com/bottlesexplode/bc.html

here you can bitch at kraft for discontinuing them.

By rmeb On 06/17/02

He actually did start a letter writing campaign... It didn't get too far off the ground though. :) I'll look and see if I still have the letter he wrote. It was Hilarious!!!

PS. i alos liked the jello gelatin pops...

By Lacey On 06/17/02

Oh I miss them!
I was trying to explain them to my young cousin. She has never had one. Growing up never having a pudding pop! This has to stop! People can't go through life never having had a pudding pop in their youth!
I'll sign a petition too!

I used to love how it had that icy shell on the outside for just a few minutes. I loved to crack it and nibble it off.
I miss the swirl pops!!

aaaaaaH!

By MsPriss On 06/17/02

Thanks a lot, Lacey. I used to do the same thing with the icy shells, and after reading all this, I'm craving one soooo bad right now!

But ya know, my mom used to make them with homemade pudding (when we were too broke for the real thing). They froze fairly well if I remember correctly. Maybe homemade works better than boxed pudding mix? Maybe there's some preservative or chemical in the mix that interferes with the freezing...who knows.

By jtsang On 06/17/02

I too did that with the shells and loved the marbley ones. Ms Priss, do you have a good home made pudding recipe? I've only made the instant kind...
thanks

Thanks Violet,
I complained with the following, i figured if they won't make em, they at least should tell us how! :
I'm writing to express my displeasure at the loss of the Jello Pudding Pop. I do understand that it's always a difficult decision to discontinue a product, however if you could provide the general public with a recipe for the pop it would be wonderful. Simply freezing jello brand pudding does not yield a smooth and creamy popsicle. Please re-consider making the pudding pop, or provide us with a recipe of a reasonable facsimilie.
Thank you
jtsang

well, thanks alot glitterati, you are adding to the incresure of my Budduh Belly.

I just made some butterscotch pudding with whole milk i accidently bought (and might i say it is THRE BEST pudding EVER) and put a little in to freeze. it was Royal brand (someone who takes away my pudding pops dosent deserve my business, anyways, it was on sale) sugar free.
this pudding is insaly think so i'll see if that makes any difference.

the letter sounds great! ill write my own in a minute.

By favorgrl On 06/17/02

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that misses pudding pops. I miss pudding pops so much. I'm going to go right a letter to kraft and demand the return of pudding pops.

Viva la pudding pop! If anyone can do it glitter can resurrect the pudding pop!
jt (who has nothing to do this PM but fantasize about frozen treats that don't exist anymore) :(

By danielepea On 06/17/02

Aw, I miss pudding pops, too. I miss those commercials with Bill Cosby. When I was a kid, it just wasn't summer without pudding pops! And I also was a fan of the ice layer. I remember liking to watch it get frosty when I took it out of the wrapping. Maybe I will write a letter to Kraft too.

By cowgirly On 06/17/02

Fear not! Someone named Jenny came up with this recipe:

GENERIC PUDDING POPS: A Recipe
1 (4 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
2 cups milk
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup canned evaporated milk

Combine pudding and milk in a large mixer bowl. Beat for two minutes. Stir in sugar and canned milk. Pour into popsicle molds and freeze.

(from this site: http://www.guileless.net/sitebody/journal/2002/01/29b.html)
If anyone tries it, tell us how it comes out!

By MsPriss On 06/17/02

Jtsang (and anybody else who's interested), I'm at work now, but I'll try to remember to post my mom's pudding recipe when I get home later tonight.

MsPriss (who's trying desperately to remember if she has any popsicle molds stashed away anywhere, to try it herself...)

By earthborn7 On 06/17/02

while we are petitioning kraft... can we get them to bring jello 123... you used to mix it in the blender and then it was seperate into 3 different layers... it sounds awful but it is more of a nostalga thing... my gram used to make it for me and my cousins... *sigh*

Girls, this is why i LOVE glitter! thanks for the recipes, and ideas and btw I liked Jello 1-2-3 as well :). I wonder if my mom still has those tupper wear popsicle molds. I'm tempted to go just buy some so i can try this.
What I did for my frozen pudding is rather ghetto, i took a styrofoam cup, filled it with pudding (not to the top cuz that's too much) and inserted a plastic fork through a piece of saran wrap which i wraped around the lid. It was sort of a DIY idea stolen from that wagon wheel hanker for a hunk of cheese guy with his toothpick orange juice ice cube pops. Good thing i have 3 more boxes of pudding to try this with, just gotta find some evaporated milk.

LMAO! ok, i haven't thought about jello pudding pops for a few years, but now i MUST have one (or 3 or 5). i can't wait to try that recipe!
jtsang - if i remember correctly, that hanker for a hunk o' cheese character was called "timer" and he'd say "it's time for timer", i remember it very well... i like to sing that cheese song every so often (cuz i'm a big dork!). yay!

I remember Jello 123! My mom used to make jello and then whip it in the mixer and pour it into dixie cups and freeze it. It's actually quite good.

Excuse my ignorance, but are Pudding Pops that different from Fudgesicles? (cowers as sticky popsicle sticks are thrown in her general direction) They might be an ok substitute, I seem to remember they get the icy outside layer too.

By jtsang On 06/17/02

Trena,
Thanks for the idea, but fudgesicles are different, they're not quite as creamy puddingy and the ice layer over a pudding pop was a lot thicker, it could actually be cracked with your teeth and pulled off to reveal some velvety puddingy stuff underneath. While I enjoy fudgesicles they have more of a frosty outside and aren't so decadent...thus their low fat content and their ability to help you when you're jonesing for some chocolate but don't want to totally indulge... :)

By danielepea On 06/17/02

Funny. I threatened, in my letter to Kraft, to eat lots of fudgesicles while I waited for them to make Pudding Pops again! I hope that the Fudgesicle makers aren't affiliated with Kraft or my threats won't have nearly as much impact, huh?

By rmeb On 06/17/02

jennyfeet- THanks for the recipe! I'm going to have to try it out. Whoever mentioned Jello 1-2-3 is a genius. That stuff was fantastic!! I think we should add it to the list of products they need to bring back!!

Wishing she had some yummy frozen treats,

For those of us who maybe too lazy to tinker around with perfecting a homemade pudding pop recipe(like me, *hangs head in shame*)...I bought a pint of chocolate Soy Delight at Trader Joe's a few weeks ago and the boy and I decided that the familiarly delicious taste was in fact reminiscent of the sadly departed Pudding Pop.

By meadow On 06/17/02

I feel so deprived that I don't remember these things! I was always a fudgesicle kinda chik. BUT I will try some of these recipes yes mamm. mmm.

By violet On 06/17/02

violet ramone..... pudding pop making exrodinare.

i made some! not with that recipie, with whole milk/royal pudding. it tastes EXACTLY the same. my life is complete :)

pa-jello 123 is avaliable with chinese directions at the overstock pantry we shopped at in philly... it was one of thosue places with way cheap food that was forgien, overstocked & out of season. i get some when i visit my girlfriend.
