I know there must be some glitter girl who has worked in a lingerie store. I was trying on some bras and none of them seemed to fit properly. My boobs seemed to be coming out from under the cup. What should one look for in a bra?

I like ones with underwire, soft cups, no seams, and a soft material with no lace.

lex, you seem to be having the same problems as me (and the same taste in bras btw -- yay us!) I also have the problem that if i have the straps at what i deem a comfortable length, then the back band rides up, but if i lengthen the straps to get the band down where it should be on my back, the straps slip off my slopey shoulders. gaah!

so i guess what i'm saying is, i'm no help to you in this situation, but i commisserate; hopefully someone can help us both!!! {:P

lately though, the girls have been poking out the bottom of the bra, argh... Why my bra shopping be such a pain in the girls?

I'm in the same boat. I have like the world's smallest shoulders, and it's a pain finding good fit.

Hey...I used to wear a D as of like 3 years ago but I was told try wearing a DD because the cup sizes are a different fit. Now, I can't even put on a D without my boobs spilling out.
I say just go to some upscale place and have them measure you and help you find one good bra.
The place I go to sometimes is crazy, it caters to strippers, big gals (like EEE), crossdressers and the normal folks. That's Crazy!

It sounds like you might need to go down a size in width. I used to wear a 36D and spilled out the bottom - nothing was comfortable. Then one day I read how to measure for proper bra size and learned that I was a 34DD. I promise you - it makes a world of difference.

The quality of the bra makes a huge difference as well.

Perhaps this will help for measuring - http://fashion.about.com/blwomen.htm

There's a trouble shooter here for various bra problems - >http://www.bravissimo.com/web/frames.html

Good luck!

I have a big (no pun intended) problem in and of that one of my boobs is larger than the other, so I perpetually have ONE TIT spilling out the bottom of the bra. It's horrible. I can hardly wear my "Hollywood Kiss" bra from Fredericks because of this phenomenon. Thankfully when I lose weight, my breasts become more symmetrical, and I don't have this problem as badly.

The things women go through! I wonder what the world would be like if men had to wear cantileved underwire separating support slings for their scrotums, and were made to feel deformed if one nut was a bit larger than the other? (Which is the case with 99% of men)

By blueduvet On 06/16/02

kmartdollie, I have the same problem. I've been so paranoid about it my whole life, like when I'm with a guy and he's feeling me up, I keep thinking that he must think I have grotesque boobs. but so far no boy has said anything to me about it; either they're all being nice or just happy to be touching boobs. I've noticed that the pill makes mine more symmetrical though.
I just have to say that glitter is so great. I wouldn't feel comfortable talking about my boobs anywhere else on the web.

I had the bra-slip-off problem. I went to Lane Bryant and got a free bra fitting and bought a bra from their sale. It was not as weird as I thought, someone cupping my boob - did not happen. I even brought this coupon and got a free matching panties. I dont know if they just make bras to fit my body type, but now I only feel comfortable in LB bras.

I have the problem of perpetually un perky boobs as in NOTHING makes them look unsaggy

its so annoying I cant find ANYTHING that fits right
Oh well at least when Im alod and everything sags Ill have been prepared bc of my sagging boobs and it wont be such a shock

I also have problems with my bras fitting correctly. My sister and I were actually just talking about this on the way into work this morning!! The back of my bra always rides up and I also have problems with some of my bras not fitting in the front. I'm going to take some measurements and see what size I really should be!!
(although, I hope it's not TOO different, b/c I have a lot of bras that I really like!!)
*r

PS. One of the magazines I read recently had a big article on how to measure yourself to determine your correct bra size, but I can't remember which one... If I do, I'll let you know.

By msmolly On 06/17/02

go to a department store and have a professional fit you. that way you're guaranteed to get the size you need.

I love Lane Bryant bras too! If you wear a 38 or larger that is- I just bought my first strapless bra (I wear a 38D and never considered it an option) this week and theirs are the only one's I've ever tried that didn't make me look like I had 4 boobs.
There is a way to figure out what size to wear by measuring yourself- In my area, there's a great store called We Fit that makes specialty bras for women with wierd sizes, uneven cups, really small frames and big boobs, or really large frames and small boobs. Check out a shop like that in your town!

I just bought a strapless bra too that is heaven for my DD breasts. I can wear thin strap tops again!!

It made me so happy. It even came with transparent straps that are sort of plasticy but are actually hard to see unless you are close to me.

And this is all thanks to someone on glitter who referred to bravissimo.

Things I learned in Macy's fitting room:

if the back's riding up, the band size is too big.

If you're falling out the bottom, either your band size is too big, the cup size is too small, or both.

if you have quadra-boob, cup size is too small, or you've got a demi cup and need a full cup or both.

if the cup is at all wrinkly (and not like my boob had pinned it into a wrinkle but wrinkly by itself), the cup size is too big.

When a good friend who thinks she is 42 DD finds out she is 40 D, sunshine and happiness reigns.

Jen

almost forgot:
the band is where all the support in a bra comes from. You should be able to slip the strap off your shoulder and not see any effect in the boobage.

hmmm... very interesting. only a couple of my bras fit properly. i really need some new ones, but i find it's such a pain - sizes really are just a guideline, and i'll find one style i like and wind up trying it on in five different sizes.

blah.

this is making me want a new bra. i'm so sick of my back hurting all the time. i think my old bras (which were stretch lace and seriously at least three to five years old) have no support left in the band, so i'm constantly trying to make up for it in the shoulder straps, which leads to hurting shoulders and back. : (

This month's issue of Glamour has a bit about getting a properly fitted bra.
I know they say to measure your trunk under your boobs to get the band size, then measure around your breasts and subtract to get the cup size, but if your present bra doesn't fit properly, won't that mess up the cup size measurement?
I have no idea what I need. Age, pregnancy and breastfeeding for 34 months have really done a number on my boobs.

You are supposed to measure without a bra on. If you have some gravity issues, however, you may need a little lift to get the right measurement. I have no idea how to achieve said lift, however, without the entire episode degenerating into a "honey, can you heft one of the twins up for a mo' - hey! stop pinching that nipple!"

By cleanout On 06/18/02

this has inspired me. i'm going to wash up my old lcae bras, cut them up and make them into sachets. and when i get some more spending money, i'll buy new ones.
