Topic About the book club... Go to previous topic Go to next topic Go to higher level

I was wondering if we could talk about how the book club's going, now that we're about halfway through the time we scheduled for discussion on the first book.

Is three weeks too long for discussing one book and reading the next?

My other main concern is that eleven people voted that they wanted to read The Blind Assassin, and there have only been nine posts about it by seven people. I'm a little nervous about what happens with the next book and the next, and so on.

What needs to change? Any suggestions?

While I was not part of initial book club planning, I think that the time for reading and the time for discussing needs to be more clearly delineated. Plus, honestly, I love Margaret Atwood, but I thought the Blind Assassin sucked when I read it in January! So I think that maybe people are reticent or not fully participating because they're not thrilled about the book or don't feel they have much to say about it.

I didn't get the Blind Assasin because while it was in at the library, I was a little daunted by the size of it, not because I am a big book shunner, but because I was worried about a. moving such a big book or b. packing it & losing it for weeks. But I am up for the next book. Maybe I'll wander over to the library right now...

I haven't read The Blind Assassin, just because I've been jumping unfocused from book to book and I didn't think this book would lend itself to that reading method. I've been doing a lot of rereading of fluffy fantasy novels lately because of my lack of reading focus.

me again. ;)

I think 3 weeks is good. The Blind Assasin still has 17 days of discussion which means I can participated! 3 weeks leaves lots of time for slackers such as myself. And I can take The Blind Assassin on vacation.

I wasn't in on the bookclub planning either, but I would like to join the discussions. I recently checked out Blind Assassin and Bonesetter's daughter - and honestly, they aren't that interesting to me (at least not right now). I love Margaret Atwood, and I sort of like Amy Tan...but these books just seem lackluster...I dunno.

I think 3 weeks is a good time frame for new books

I didn't suggest any books, but I did pick up The Blind Assassin from the library to participate in the discussions.

I can't seem to get past the first 20 pages.

I've never liked sci-fi (sorry!) and it seems too jumpy for me. I do have the Bonesetter's Daughter so I think I'll just start that instead of trying to force myself to get through this one.

I feel like an Atwood loser. I am not getting this book. Dont give up on the club. I have faith. I am going to start Bonesetters. I love Tan. Someone said it was boring, then I will be real sad :(

I am going to give the Blind Assassin one last go to have something to post about, even if it is that I dont get the book.
