does this not sound like the best idea--make clothing out of sheets. i was thinking how nice it would be to take all the sheets you had as a kid(rainbow brite, smurfs, ninja turtles, etc...), even plain or patterned sheets--any sheet really--and make clothes out of them. the possibilities are endless. there could be tank tops and pj pants, shorts, robes, dresses...i'm so excited. finally something for me to do when i can't fall asleep. forgive my enthusiasm if you've already thought of this. i'm just imagining all the sheets i can get from thrift stores and all the clothes i can make from them. how exciting. jamie

Try tablecloths too - as long as they aren't stained! I made a really cool shirt out of an old apple print tablecloth - i used the border along the bottom edge of the shirt for contrast...

I have friends who have used their old sheets (smurfs, care bears, sesame street, etc) to make shirts, skirts, tanks, and purses. They look really neat.

On the topic of this sheet idea...i was wondering if anyone had a simple pattern for pajama/lounge pants...I have some sort of strange fetish for them and continually buy and buy and buy them...and for some reason i never thought of making them until now..i could probably save myself some money. If anyone has a simple pattern or a web site to a pattern it would be greatly appreciated...i also stress the word SIMPLE since i am definately not the best sewer around..

I have the exact same problem. I buy pj pants on a continuous basis. It really is ridiculous but these are the most comfy things ever invented. You know those old ones with holes in them that you have and don't want anymore? Carefully cut down each seam, and then take the new fabric you want to make new ones from, and lay on the old pieces and cut out (with an inch extra to sew seams). Then assemble the new ones like the old ones were, being sure to sew right sides together. Hem the bottom, and put elastic in the top! Voila! That's the simplest pattern ever.
