I know a lot of us do thrifting but what about clearance rack finds?
Lately, I have scored

* a pair of Angels dark bootcut jeans marked down from 42$ to 10$!
* 2 yards of Green taffetta for 1$!
* a pair of unionbay strech cord jeans makred down from 42$ to 19$!

I am saving for an apartment so I mostly just go through clearance racks unless I need something in particular..how about you?

my all time favourite find is a pair of italian leather mid calf boots. the are classic cowboy cut square toe with chiselled cuban heel. they have a snake skin finish and are purple with bright red leather lining.

they were marked down from $300.00 to $29.95.

these bargains NEVER happen to me, so i snaffled up a pair and went back the next day for the second colourway which is blue/green.

the second pair had a further 25% off so ended up costing around $22.00.

i got them around 18 months ago and wear either pair just about everyday. the blue/green pair is in now getting new soles and i miss them dreadfully!

i should have bought every single pair available in my size as I will never become sick of these and the way i dress they go with everything!!

I just pulled off a major haul at Claire's. I got:

A blue plastic makeup bag
Blue hair glitter
Gold body glitter
Puple glitter nailpolish
A butterfly ring
A blue glass bead necklace
4 wood bead necklaces

All for $5. I'm going to be keeping an eye on Claire's.

Edited: I meant to say $5! Ten things for $5.

The shirt I'm wearing right now, lime green, knit, 3/4 sleeve, polo with 4 button placket (so's I can unbutton lots and show some, albeit meager, cleavage) was $4.99 at Evil Wal-mart.
I wear it at least once a week.

working at ikea, i go to the "as is" section every shift... and i almost always manage to find something in there!

i've found so much it's too long to list here.. it's so addictive!

about claires:

i worked there back in 1997-1998, and they used to have these clearance sales where they would sell ten clearance items for $5. i think they still do that sale, so keep your eyes peeled. i used to get all sorts of stuff dirt cheap. it helped that i always got 50% off, too....

I <3 Nordstrom's Rack

RLauren Velvet Black Slacks $119/9.99
Blue Cords 89/9.99
BCBG strapy heels for 22.00
Dr Martins for 15.00

I go Monday right after they mark things down.

I got some cute black Mossimo pants at Target for 7.40 on the clearance rack. Unfortunately, they don't fit me, which pisses me off. I am wearing size 15 skirt which is loose on me, and I can't squeeze into size 15 pants. I also can't seem to get my big ass into size 16 jeans, but the size 16 pants I bought fit me just fine. I am so sick of all this sizing bullshit!!!! I wish they would federally regulate that shit!

By galaxycraze On 06/06/02

I worked in retail for 5 years so
a) i NEVER buy anything full price
b) i've gotten lotsa good deals over the years

i s'pose the best one was a pair of j.crew, sorta champagne silver, shantung silk, 60's style, side zip, ankle pants for $7. i think they're v. cocktailey, my friend said they're discoriffic. yay!

By lottie On 06/06/02

at a neiman marcus clearance a miu miu skirt for 30 dollars from $110 and an armani collection jacket, not a/x but black label for 50 dollars from $350. it sits in my closet but hey, you never know.

By seventwelve On 06/06/02

I am a clearance rack queen.

One of my best recent finds was a pair of green wool pants at Saks for $15, originally about $150.

I've had several formal dress finds. One was luscious green velvet for $10. Another is navy blue with beautiful embroidery that I got for $5. I haven't actually gotten to wear it, but it was $5! :-)

BCBG classic ankle length black skirt Price Tag (somewhere around $300, don't remember exactly) paid $30.00. BCBG black, sleeveless sweater, price tag $70.00. I paid $12.00.

Theory two button down cashmere, short sleeved sweaters each with a price tag of $350.00 That's $700.00 for two sweaters. I got they for $75.00.

I love Marshalls. My friend mel worked at the Gap and got a pair of leather pants for $4.00.

Oh this topic is near and dear to my heart. It's a rare day that I will pay full price for clothing.

My favorite haunts are the outlets in Commerce, GA. and the upstairs "clearance center" at a Dillard's dept. store in Greenville, SC It serves as the clearance center for all the Dillard's in the Southeast. They have mucho name brand items for dirt cheap; you just have to rummage through a lot of crap to find the good stuff.

My latest scores:
- an $80 red, embroidered tie-front peasant blouse for $8 at the clearance center
- $70 Jones NY linen blouse for $8 (for work, of course :P)
- $65 pair of Naturalizer boots for $12 in Commerce

By SkyPrincessJo On 06/06/02

Tigrrrl -You got my attention. Is it a different Dillard's than the one in that mall at the Roper Mt Road exit? I went to that one a few months back for an emergency wardrobe fix while there on business in Feb. 20 minutes until the mall closed and I walked out with a new jacket, a pair of pants and a shirt for about $25. I probably tried on 8 pairs of pants and a couple skirts in that time. Everything was cheap, but I'm not sure I was in a clearance part. I keep finding myself in Greenville so I'd like to make sure I hit this outlet when/if I go back.

My other best recent clearance find was the $120 Steve Madden "tall black boots" that I got for $30 at Famous Footwear.

By nicegirl512 On 06/06/02

Oh, this is my department. I am the queen of bargain shopping. I dress all cute and fashionable (people tell me) and it is rare, very rare, that the outfit I'm wearing cost more than $20. Probably my best find was this kooky black and white tight'n'short little dress for $1.99. It needed minor repairs which cost maybe another dollar to fix.

Weiners went out of business here about a year ago and I got some SWEET deals there. They had all this Express stuff for $5. I got two skirts, a fabulous black cocktail dress (very Audrey/Jackie O.) with red trim that I haven't worn yet although I've altered it, and a cool lilac forties style dress with some hideous embroidery on the skirt that I carefully picked out over the course of a week. I haven't worn the lilac dress yet either, I think I need a girdle (my belly sticks out too much in it). Each item for $5, each item originally $50-$80.

Oh, and my $7 K-Mart Girl's Dept most hilarious faux leather pants. These things are a scream, I just love them.

And since nothing is better than marked down clearance items, be sure to hit Joann's next Fri and Saturday when the clearance fabric will be reduced for some kind of firefly sale.

By danielepea On 06/06/02

Oh, I always feel so slick and clever when I get a good clearance rack find! I always check the clearance section of a store first. Some highlights of my bargain shopping career include:

-Banana Republic wool, lined pants for $19 (orig. $130)
-cool burgundy, suede Doc Martens for $30 (orig. $110)
-Moschino t-shirt for $5 (orig. ??)

I have to say that Saks has some great clearance racks. The other day they had some Marc Jacobs jeans going for $32! Unfortunately, they didn't fit me. Sniff...

By Tigrrrl On 06/06/02

SkyPrincessJo - I think you hit up the one at Haywood Mall. The clearance center is at Greenville Mall which is on Woodruff Rd. (Gvlle Mall's a whole lot smaller than Haywood.) You can get to Woodruff Rd. off of I-85 or 385.

The clearance center takes up the entire second floor and you'll know it when you see it. Downstairs is brightly-lit, perfumy southern lady land. Upstairs is poorly lit, musty and packed full of bargains.

I'm here to give you all a run for your money on the clearance shopping crown!!! There is nothing I love more!! Just a coupla weeks ago I got a $150 cashmere skirt for $10 and another $80 skirt for $4 at Nordstrom Rack. I regularly buy shirts and skirts for $2 or less at Old Navy.

My favorite?? I even bought my wedding dress on the clearance rack!! It was the floor sample -- marked down from $900 to about $180, and it fit perfectly! No alterations, not even a hem! And it was exactly what I was looking for! Woo hoo!!!

When I was incredibly broke, spottily employed, and in need of new clothes a couple of years ago, I decided that I would set a $10 price limit on what I would spend for items of clothing. It was killing me at first, but now it's like a game... Now that I have a better job, I still stick to it for the most part, I just get way more clothes!!

i love clearance shopping. i really don't understand it when people pay full price for anything. marshall's has been good to me-i got a pair of puma's for $18, which is decent, and a pair of baby pink converse for $2 or $4, i can't remember- either way a big savings. i've also been buying le sportsac bags there lately, on clearance. i don't know wy i love these bags, but i do. they're so tacky and preppy i just can't resist.
i once got my favorite pair of shoes, again puma's, for $10- they're usually $55-60.

i recently stocked up on funky makeup at target and i don't think anything was more than $2.50.
i also got some good eyeshadow and lip gloss at sephora all for $6.50 a piece, half off.
i'm stalking this cybiko thing at target that's price is dropping every week. and they just put their palm pilots on clearance too.

last year i got two bolts of fabric for $25. one is a red background with huge shite roses outlined in hot pink that is all over my room and the other is a bunch of rainbow bright pillow cut and sew patterns. that was an excellent deal. i love the salvage store. . .

By clarice On 06/06/02

from Peacocks (a UK cheapass clothes store)

fushia pink linen trousers £3.99 (from £14.99)
long red velvet dress 99p (from £12.99).. thats approx $1.50!

I plan to adjust the sleeves and neckline on the dress to make it into a posh evening dress. They had loads of them on the 99p rack.. I wish I'd bought a couple of plus size ones for the fabric, but I was tres skint! i had to count out the pennies at the checkout.
how come i am always super skint when the best bargains come along!

Yesterday I Urban Outfitters I got this great shirt. It's like a vintage red ringer and it has Goofy on it and "Jamacia" in the right breast. It's so cute, and it's vintage! And cheap!($4.99) At Urban Outfitters nonetheless!!

By thriftstorediva On 06/09/02

Urban Outfitters in boulder had the best sales....I never bought anything full price there. ever.....the one in seattle at westlake doesn't seem as good for that. in florida burdines always had good clearance racks. and I keep my eyes peeled for the half off everything sales at the local thriftstores. if only anthropologie had good sales.....
pearlriver in nyc has cool stuff for cheap...pearlriver.com

By kickarse On 06/09/02

Hey thriftstorediva! All the sale stuff at Urban Outfitters in Seattle is at the store in Broadway Market, not the one downtown next to Anthropologie. Usually half of the whole top floor is just sale stuff.

By thriftstorediva On 06/10/02

thanks....I'll check it out. I love the henna line of clothes. and the shoes ....uo always has fun shoes. but I need to cut back on my shopping ways! damn.
