You MUST have some madonna in the car!!!

I'll second the B52's and i'd like to add smashing pumpkins. I'm not neccessarily a big pumkin fan...but I find that some of their songs are really great for the car. Like 1979 or Today for daytime driving.

Nighttime driving is a totally different list...so if I were you ..I'd make one side of the tape called daytime and the other called nighttime.
At night I like to hear nmore depeche mode and morrissey and moby

almost anything by the grateful dead is good for road trips, especially truckin' or friend of the devil...

"i don't love anyone" by belle and sebastian. i love that song. when i make my movie someday, that will be playing during the opening driving car scene.

uhmmm... and the album "car wheels on a gravel road" by lucinda williams, lots of good travelling music on that one

okay!!!
I'm a huge music freak so of course I'll have to reply to this one! I like lots of different music so not all of these are the same type of stuff...

Bis-Detour (it's about being out on the road)

Bis-Theme from Tokyo (also about leaving)

Guttermouth-Up your Bum (it's rather short but cute!)

Fear Factory-Cars (very fitting!! if u don't think u've heard it u probably have and just don't know it!)

Add N to X- Plug me in (it's very energizing!)

Less Than Jake- Cheese (also very energizing)

Hope I could help!!

B-52's Roam (the whole "Cosmic Thing" album makes for good road-trip music...)
The Smiths anything from "Strangeways, Here
We Come"
Pizzicato 5 Magic Carpet Ride
Duran Duran anything from "Rio"
Sting anything from "...Nothing like the
Sun"

i always like songs that are fun to yell and that don't matter if someone is a little off-key.

"i love rock and roll" and "we got the beat" are two good ones.

There's always the soundtrack to "Lost Highway"... Bowie, Reznor, Lou Reed, Rammstein...
Lots of angry/energetic music, plus some jazz and a cameo by Robert Loggia!

Personally, I use tapes of Steeleye Span. I'm in LOVE with them.

good driving songs:

begging you- stone roses
my favourite game- the cardigans
the passenger- iggy pop

and it's always cool to throw in a few cheesy oldies or 80s songs that gets the whole car singing. my friends and i are quite fond of billie jean (hey, this song is great), like a prayer, and anything motown
