hi. i'm trying to find a super easy pattern for a skirt.. as simple as possible. do you know where i can get one (for free)?

thanks!

yes. i will give you one. measure your hips and add at least 3 inches to that measurement. divide this measurement in half, and add one inch to it for the seam allowance. cut two pieces of fabric this wide, and as long as you want the skirt plus six or so inches. sew them together to make a tube. fold the top of the tube over twice to the inside, so that there's a casing wide enough for your elastic, and sew it down except for an inch over one of the vertical seams. thread a piece of elastic just long enough to go around your waist through the casing (a safety pin through one end of the elastic helps threading it) and sew the ends together securely. sew the open part of the casing shut, so that the elastic is totally enclosed. now fold half an inch at the bottom in, then fold it in again to make a hem. sew that down by machine or hand. voila.

I don't use patterns per se to make skirts any more... they're all the same and once you've made one you've made em all as long as you just want something simple.... if you wanted more of an A line sort of skirt and had one to copy as a guide then I would put that on the fabric for the basic shape and cut around leaving about two inches extra all around, cut two, then sew up one side seam, if you want a zip put it in the other side seam now, then put the skirt "on" and work out how much two big it is, shouldn't be too much if you fit the other skirt/ pattern. this area of too biggness becomes your darts place the darts at the quarter points approximately two at front and two at back, try it on adjust the darts till it fits, then cut a length of fabric approx three four inches wide and hem one side, this is the facing for the top sew it on right sides together then topstich, or stitch the ditch so that it sits down, hem, maybe put a hook and eye in the top of the zip, fin. I did this last week exactly like that and have a funky new red skirt, I have done it before with bias cut fabric, sometimes skip the top facing and just sew down the top but this is a bit lazy and the facing is neater, hope this is not too long/ complicated and clear enough, if you want an actual pattern for free I can't help but sometimes op shops have 2nd hand patterns, as i said before a skirt is a skirt is a skirt so if there is one which seems a bit old/ daggy get it cause the basics will be there and the dorky bits aren't usually crucial...ros.

hey! a friend of my cousin made a skirt by modifying a pillow case - this could look extra cool with an old one with a vintage pattern.

you could also just trace the shape of an old skirt that u like, and add an inch or so, and use that as a pattern!

SIMPLEST PATTERN EVER!!! My friend found a really huge gray skirt in a free box and decided she wanted it as a skirt. she chopped it off and then cut little holes at the top. she then threaded yarn through the holes (this is done to sinch up the waits) Then I took in one of the sides (have it inside out of this) so it would fit tighly over our hips and sewed it down that side cutting off the extra fabric. your very own skirt. we also made a skirt out of a pillow case by sewing the top and down the side.

this is really the easiest skirt on earth! i'm about a size 9, this will work for anything under and a size or two above.

just take a yard of fabric (or maybe more if you want it longer or wider) wrap it around yourself to figure out which end fits around your waist. it should be as big as your hips, so you can get it on. then sew up the back, making a small slit if you're making it a long one so you can walk without taking tiny steps. then hem up the bottom. then make a big hem in the top, don't finish it all the way, thread through elastic to fit, finish the hemming and viola!

it can be long or short, hippy or punky, depending on what kind of fabric you use. if you want more details, or maybe a simple drawing pattern or a picture, email me and i will send you one.
