last night i was in a bar in chapel hill, and started to talking to this girl about her cool iron-on shirts and if she made the domino bracelet she was wearing. she gave me tips on how to drill through the dominos.

as she was talking i couldn't help but think, i wonder if she's a glitterati?

a friend of mine was really into what iron-ons she had, and she said she had a website. i asked what it was, she gave me a flyer and it was glitter's own greasywaitress!

after this randomness, i started talking about the joy of knitting to my friends i was out with, who were all male. they made fun of me about knitting all night after that. one day, they'll come around, i know it.

That made me smile. Greasywaitress is cool. I don't go out too often but when I do see crafty looking girls I always wonder if they glitter.

I didn't even discuss crafts with this girl at the airport a few weeks ago, and I wondered if she was glitterati. But I didn't ask. So if you're a Jersey girl who was on your way to a wedding by way of the Raleigh airport a few weeks ago, hello! And you're the nicest smoker I've ever met! (After she asked me if I wanted a cigarette and I said no, she put them away and didn't have one. But she seemed kind of jumpy. Maybe she was more distracted than considerate. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt!)

That is so freaking cool! I often wonder if people I see are glitterati and I don't even know about it...too cool. :)

I was at a memorial service for a 40+ yo friend, really tragic messy accident.

I didn't think about what to wear, I was so distraught still. I just grabbed my regular purse, left on jewelry i wore earlier that day and went out. Umm, and a vest I made over a jersey dress.

One of the staffers there was very curious about my purse which was made from a Turkmeni prayer rug. She asked me wide eyed if it was a purse, then looked at my odd shell jewelry and brocade vest. I knew she wanted to ask more, but my eyes were very red and teary.

I still think sometimes that I should have been able to talk to her more about making your own stuff. She was really fascinated with my stuff. If I'd had calling card with glitter or getcrafty on it I could have given it to her. I just couldn't deal with normal conversation right then.

Sorry if this is too sad. It just shows that crafty people and wannabes are everywhere.

Perhaps we should have little silver "G" pins for our lapels or something. Something with rhinestones, maybe? Secret handshakes?

**edited to add:**
der! I just saw ms. susanstars' post about her upcoming trip to raleighwood "I'll bring you some getcrafty pins." Der!

Elf Chick & I organized a getcrafty pin swap 6 months or so ago. A friend of mine made us 250, & we sent them to people who sent a SASE or a cool little gift. My friend Kristin (www.onelittlemonkey.com) made them & still has the getcrafty image onfile & would make one for you I'm sure, or if lots of people are interested, i could order a bunch from her again.

I am going to wear mine tomorrow & hope some getcrafty girls will recognize me at the church of craft meeting in nyc!

Me too, me too.... Lets figure out a way to do this...

By susan*s On 05/14/02

OK, if you want me to send you a pin, e-mail me at alineskirt@yahoo.com and I will reply with instructions. Please e-mail me from the address you want to get info at! I am in New York right now & won't be home again for a week and a half, but I can send them out after that. If I need to order more pins from my friend, it may take a little while, but I will work that out with her after I'm back!

Or, if you want many pins, contact www.onelittlemonkey.com & tell them you want to order getcrafty pins. They still have the images on file.

betsylou- i was there, too! bridget(greasywaitress) and i were on a little road trip together. by the time she told me she met you, we couldn't find you, but i wish i got to meet you, too. next time i'm in chapel hill, i'll see you in hell. heehee.

By quixotic. On 05/14/02

jenna: damnit! that would have been two random glitter sightings!! when i started talking to her, my friend (the guy working the door) was trying to hit on her. he was a bit freaked out when through an internet community, i 'knew' her! (how i do covet her PBR t-shirt!)

and yes, if you are ever in chapel hill again, we shall meet in hell.

hope your roadtrip was FABULOUS! (and that, of course, you had fun in chapel hill.)

:)
betsy.

By kazoogrrl On 05/14/02

Well, I just started to talk to sarahliz via email and we realized we've been at some of the same parties. Oh, Baltimore is SO small.

By girl.unsung On 05/14/02

i didn't have an odd glitter sighting, but it turned out that when i met shine, her roommate was working on graphic design stuff with one of my friends in my office. kind of odd, cos dc isn't exactly small.

By greasywaitress On 05/15/02

I was at an arts and music festival in Hoboken a couple of weeks ago and I saw a bunch of artists that I wanted to ask if they were Glitterati. But I didn't have the inner energy to deal with the strange looks I would get if they weren't.

Btw, two girls had the best name for their business, but I can't remember what it is, maybe Goopy Gooey Gluey Girls, or something to that effect. They collaged verycool pictures onto glasses and boxes and other things.
