SO.

Obviously, with winter not ending any time soon and my moisturizer at an all time low - does anyone know of any products or how to take the redness out of your face? Not the "oh I look healthy, like I'm *glowing* red but more the "My skin looks irritated and tired and hey! I just stood in the sun for hours" sort of red.

Mainly, I just look sickly. My skin, which is usually pale and freckled, is just ... well, red. So. Suggestions? Anyone? Pleeeease? Thankyou. :)

This is probably not the answer you want, but you either need to moisturize or to use a foundation. Your skin is irritated from dry heat, cold winds, and possibly some allergy or sensitivity to something that arrives with winter air like mold in the air ducts.

Clean your face gently, don't use soap or anything if you can avoid it. Just clean hands and water, plenty of it, not too hot. Cold is actually good if your bathroom is comfortably warm. Pat dry, don't rub, and immediately before the air dries it even more, rub on some moisturizer, or some foundation.

You want to keep the pH balance a little on the acid side, like normal skin, so very hard water may be making it worse.

Moisturizer and foundation will help what little moisture you have in those rosy cheeks to stay there, plus it will feel better.

Make sure you put some on before bed time, too.

And keep up with your vitamins. Skin and nails and hair are the first places that deficiency shows typically.

Are you drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day? And not smoking?

I shouldn't be offering advice. The sides of my nose have this peeling skin right now. Yuck. But then I just got over a bad cold.

moisturizer rocks ass.
i have some red in my face too, because of the broken capillaries in my cheeks... (otherwise my skin is perfect! heh. sexiness.)
but yeah, to cover red you should use green foundation/concealer. i think i've seen some at a drugstore, too.. so i'm sure it may be easily obtained.. but recently i've been short on $$$, so i'm unable to get some for myself. sad indeed! heh.
and... if you have dark circles under your eyes you should use yellow concealer.
if your skin's pale/dull/whatever then try pink.

Question: I have a couple tiny red dots by my eye. They look like little red freckles, not bumps. They've been there for years. Does anyone know what they're from? Thanks.

By startle On 01/25/01

I have superpale skin and it gets red easily...I ALWAYS keep cortisone cream on hand, it takes red away fast and reduces swelling and redness in zits, too. :)
Subtle, sounds like you've got some broken capillaries, they're pretty normal, the skin around your eyes is really fragile.

Subtle, if these are tiny round very berry red, maybe with a little height to them, they are hemangiomas. Normal in fair skin. Talk to your doc if they bother you, and you may be referred to a dermatologist who will tell you to leave them alone. But they can be removed with laser treatments. I've had three on or around my breasts for maybe 25 years. No change, nothing to worry about.

I got a sample of a burts bees soap - orange facial wash, or something, and I was surprised that it was very oily... thing is, my skin is red year round, and twice as red in the winter (sunburnt in the summer, coldburnt in the winter? they joys of red hair!) and the burts bees oily soap was very gentle on my skin, and I might be tricking myself, but I *could* have seen some improvement... and then I ran out. end of scientific test.

I have those little red dots all over my body and even one in the middle of my forehead. It glows because I'm so pale. I too get red very easily and it is a real pain in the ass. Everyone thinks I'm always embarassed, which is so annoying. I turn red when I laugh, talk for long periods of time, smile, or when exposed to any small temperature change. And not only does my head get red and purple but my legs are forever purple or what I call "sausage skin". bleh
I will have to try the cortisone cream. thanks.

Hahaha, Eschy, I was called Alby short for Albino in high school. I still say I glow in the dark. No tan ever, light freckles, but they never cover me and I live in Florida. Your blushing (and mine) probably won't be helped by cortisone cream. My friends and coworkers know to look at my part if my head is down because it will glow brighter than Rudolph's nose.

We are supposed to be able to control that with biofeedback. I've even heard of a trial lawyer, a woman, who learned to control it so she could manipulate the jury very subtly.

I know the sausage skin, too. That's probably when you are cold, or even worse when you have had a severe sunburn and have subcutaneous scarring. According to dermatologists I should be dead by now with all the sunburns I have had. My eyes are so light sensitive that I never go anywhere without sunglasses.

The hemangiomas are not generally dangerous, but any skin anomaly should be monitored for change that could signify malignancy. Even scaly red skin.

This is so imprecise, but you may want to try excluding things from your diet to see if some make you worse than others. It could be a combination of things. It took me thirty years to realize that a major catalyst for me was chocolate. I already knew a lot of the other culprits, but chocolate combined with fumes from household cleaners, or chocolate and any tiny white composite flower pollinating, or chocolate and wearing nylon, or chocolate and drinking red wine. I could tolerate chocolate *or* those other things, but not both.

And if you can't ever find what sets your coloring to broil, just think of yourself as a sultry babe who is too hot to handle...

as for the cortisone cream... using it now and then is fine, but it's not something you want to put on your skin day after day, especially in a sensitive area like your face. cortisone is a steriod, and steriods are not good for you.

i am always flushed because i work in a cold building (oh boy, a constant red nose!), but coffee also makes me red. being in the sun makes me red, even if i have sunblock on. pretty much the only thing that helps me is washing my face with lukewarm water and putting light moisturizer on it.

hello there ladies can anyone say carcinogenic. Yes Cortison is. Yes some say only in large quantities or through injections, but slathering it on everyday can't be good. Honestly the stuff works miraculously but is only temporary and is harmful. ONly use is when nessesary. please

By mandapants On 02/07/01

vitamin e, in the little oil capsules, will take the red out. i use a little at night on the parts of me that get really red, like around my nose and such. it also works wonders on those marks that zits leave behind. maybe you should try a good mousturizer with e in it, i know kiss my face makes a rocking vitamin a & e lotion.

By Lacey On 02/08/01

Do Not put cortisone around your eyes! I don't care how bad it is! if you put that on your face that is bad enough... but it is a steroid and it thins your skin.
It will make you eyelids REDDER!
even years from now your eyelids will turn pink like little old ladies have

I love the stuff... but be careful with it

Also

FOr emergency red splotches or broken blood vessiles...
you can use *gasp* hemoroid cream.
It will teperarily calm down the blood vessiles and take the red and swelling out.

You won't see any red at all...for a few hours...long enough to look fabulous on a date out to a party
