i'm trying to decorate light switch covers.
i'd like to print out pictures and somehow stick them to the covers.. i'm playing around with mod podge but it's a little thick and streaky. if you water it down does it still work as well, and does anyone have any different ideas on how to get the images to stick and what i could coat them with?

ok, so i don't really have an answer to your actual question, but you could try wallies. they're like removable wallpaper things. sort of like big stickers that stay up like wallpaper, and are reusable. very cool...you can use them on damn near everything, lampshades, furniture, walls, containers, etc...

or you could try just painting the covers...

sorry i couldn't be of more help, i'm not as crafty as most...=*( (but i will be someday!)

at home depot, they have clear plastic switch plates for 99 cents. you could apply your pic, collage, whatever the the inside with a clear drying glue..or something like that...anyway, the clear switch plate would protect your work.

I used modge podge for some coasters, and it streaked because they were images from my printer. It didn't streak at all with the color copies I made. When it dried it looked great.

If you're printing stuff out off of your computer and just applying it on to the switch...you can get some printer paper that is actually sticker sheets. You can get it at wal-mart or anywhere that sells printer paper...It's relatively cheap i suppose, and it works pretty good. I've used most of the Avery line from the sticker sheets to the iron ons to the magnet sheets and shrinky dinks and i haven't had problems. If you don't have a store that sells products like that near you you can check out www.avery.com.

you can use mod podge to shellac fabric to switchplate covers. just fold it carefully around the back and glue it down well, so it doesnt hold the plate away from the wall. my room has maroon fabric with moons, suns, and stars printed in gold on the plates.

i make these all the time, i have even been selling them like crazy!! you can do it too, here's a pic:

it's soooo easy!! just use good ol' elmer's glue! apply a thin coat on the back of your image, then apply and let it dry completely. then apply another thin coat on TOP of the image (it dries clear). ley it dry, then spray it with a high gloss varnish. you can also paint and add glitter to it too, that's what i like to do anyways...

have fun!

I was just looking at old threads for fun things to try out. That is a very funky lightswitch cover and I have to ask you if know anywhere I can get the 'La Sirena' graphic? I know it is from one of those cards... I have been looking everywhere. Thanks :)
