So, I just heard that William Shatner and Spike TV have just completed shooting a new reality series that, much like current trend of reality TV shows, plays a joke on its participants... this time, basically a whole town.
William Shatner and the film crew arrived in a small town in Iowa, telling the less than 1000-person population that they were shooting a science fiction movie, written by and starring Shatner, called "Invasion Iowa." Many of the locals were hired to work on and in the movie, while Shatner played an incredibly egotistical and ridiculous version of himself, the Hollywood star. After ten days of shooting, Shatner let the town-folks in on the joke, and told them that they were all just part of the filming of a new reality show slated to air on Spike TV in early 2005.
What do you guys think of this new trend in playing a big hoax on reality TV show participants? Do they deserve it for trying to grab the limelight, or is it cruel and unusual?
